This Blog Is Dofollow

By default, Wordpress comments (or more specifically author links) have an unpopular nofollow attribute assigned which means that search engine spiders do not follow these links. In other words, they are ignored (not counted as backlinks). By removing this attribute you can make your blog comments dofollow (followed by search engines).

Rel Attribute

Attribute rel has already been in specifiactions for decades. Theory says it specifies the relationship between the current document and a target URL. For example, when you add rel="copyright" to an anchor element (<a>), it should mean that the anchor links to the page containing description of author rights. Other values are alternate, designates, stylesheet, start, next, prev, contents, index, glossary, chapter, section, subsection, appendix, help and bookmark.

Few years ago, rel property has been used very rarely but that is no longer true. At the beginning of 2005, Google has recommended to use a new (non-standard) value rel="nofollow" in order to block spammers’ links from discussions. Other search engines have followed Google’s iniciative so at the moment, both Yahoo and MSN ignore hyperlinks with rel="nofollow" value, too. Nobody knows exactly how it works but it has already been widely used for a while (especially at discussion boards and blogs).

This Blog Is Dofollow Now

Dofollow blog commentsYeah… I got rid of evil nofollow atributes. In a longer run, I hope it will encourage you to comment more and share your knowledge. Likewise, I am really interested in your opinion. Discussion between the author and readers is one of the most essential parts of blogging. It keeps blogs alive.

I have used this plugin to remove nofollow attributes. It’s as simple as it can be - just upload it to plugins folder, activate it and you’re done.

I Hate Spammers

I really do. Akismet works fine and catches 99% of all spam comments. However, I want to have an absolute control over what comments appear on my blog. That’s why I’ll manually review all comments before approval so don’t worry if your comment doesn’t show up right away. I will approve it as soon as possible.
